American President Lines’ Final Donated Containers of Thrift Books

One Response to “American President Lines’ Final Donated Containers of Thrift Books”

  1. With this container now being unloaded and books transferred to our container-warehouse in Myanmar Book Centre’s compound, we have passed the 200,000 mark for books donated to Myanmar’s libraries. This particular container is filled with Thrift’s children’s books. 5000 academic books were also contributed by the University of Washington Libraries to their counterpart professional libraries. Our sixth and final American President Line donated container berth leaves Seattle June 23.

Skeptics ask how we are able to move so many books freely into so many local community and academic libraries? The Ministry of Information has carefully reviewed and now endorses our initial shipments at our book fairs, where we are selling 15-20% of Thrift’s trade books to individuals and private schools. The value of these sales now exceed $50,000, most of which is used to purchase Burmese language texts, and assist student-organized libraries operate.
